State excise officers will increase late night patrols around college campuses beginning this weekend.

Uniformed and plain-clothed officers will step up patrols of residential and side streets near Indiana colleges, according to a press release.

The main factor for increasing the patrols, Corporal Brandon Thomas said, is that recent batteries, vehicle break ins and other incidents have occurred between midnight and 4 a.m. on campuses across the state. Students were the victims in many of these crimes.

“We want to make sure that officers are out during these hours and observing for behavior or activity that appears to be out of place, suspicious, odd or dangerous.” Thomas said.
