FOOTBALL: Ball State vs. Bowling Green updates

Fourth quarter 

At the end of the fourth quarter, Ball State leads Bowling Green 41-24.

Knapke hit Roger Lewis deep to the Ball State 32 on the first play of the fourth quarter, but Bowling Green turned the ball over on downs, Ball State taking over on its 25.

Mann hit Mabon for a first down, then Edwards picked up a first down on the ground. A completion to Mabon moved the chains, and Edwards pounded it up the middle to take the ball to the Bowling Green 13. He scored a 13-yard touchdown run, extending Ball State’s lead to 41-24.

Bowling Green began its drive at its 25-yard line after a touchback. Knapke found Roger Lewis on third and four for a first, and Greene ran right for 10 yards to the Bowling Green 48 and another first. On first down, was sacked for a loss of five, but the Falcons converted a fourth and three. The Falcons were unable to pick up a first on their next set of downs, and the Cardinals took over on their 21.

Ball State ran the ball four consecutive times before punting.

Givens rushed for four yards and the clock expired. 

 Third quarter 

At the end of the third quarter, Ball State leads Bowling Green 34-24.

Ball State began the second half on its 45-yard line. Edwards picked up the first down facing third and short, and ripped off a 16-yard carry to move his team into the red zone. Ball State settled for a field goal, extending the lead to 27-21.

Bowling Green started its first drive of the second half off on its 25-yard line. Greene took off up the middle for a first down to the Bowling Green 40, then a 38-yard rush to the Ball State 24. Bowling Green kicked a field goal and cut the Ball State lead to 27-24.

Mabon took the kickoff out to the Ball State 22. The Cardinals failed to pick up a first down, and the Falcons took over on their 21-yard line after the punt. Bowling Green quickly fell apart, punting the ball to Ball State, who took over on its 38.

Edwards rumbled down to the Bowling Green 19-yard line, and then took the ball down to the two. He took another handoff, this one for a touchdown, extending the Cardinals lead to 34-24.

Bowling Green started its next drive off on its 22. After a couple rushes, the quarter ended.

Second quarter

At halftime, Ball State leads Bowling Green 24-21.

Mann kept the ball for a first down, and Edwards took off to the right for 13 yards to the Bowling Green five-yard line. A loss of five and a penalty backed Ball State up to the 15, then a screen for a loss of three ended the drive. Scott Secor was good, cutting the lead to 21-10.

Bowling Green started its drive off on its 25-yard line. Knapke found Ryan Burbrink for a first down, and hit Ronnie Moore for another. Greene took off for a first down of his own, and Nick Miles sacked Knapke to set up a fourth and 12. A field goal attempt fell short, giving Ball State the ball on its 35-yard line.

Green tore off a run to the Bowling Green 36 and Ball State converted a fourth and two to extend the drive. Mann hit Chris Shillings for the touchdown, cutting the Bowling Green lead to 21-17.

The Falcons started their drive off on their 20. It quickly fell apart, and Ball State took over on its 20 after the punt. Mann hit Mabon for two consecutive first downs, then hit Williams to the Bowling Green 20. Williams caught another pass, this one for a touchdown, giving Ball State a 24-21 lead.

Bowling Green started its drive off on its 20-yard line. The Falcons ran a few plays, and the clock expired.

First quarter 

At the end of the first quarter, Ball State trails Bowling Green 21-7.

Bowling Green started its first drive off on its 25-yard line. Travis Greene took the first play, a handoff up the middle, 75 yards for a touchdown. After the extra point, Bowling Green led 7-0.

Ball State started its drive on its 34-yard line. Jahwan Edwards ran for a short gain, was tackled for a two yard loss and Ozzie Mann hit KeVonn Mabon for a 62-yard touchdown, tying the game at seven after the extra point.

Clint Stephens took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown, giving Bowling Green a 14-7 lead.

Mabon took the Ball State kickoff out to the Ball State 27. The drive quickly fell apart and Bowling Green took over on its 18 after the punt.

Fred Coppet tore off a 63-yard run and capped off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 21-7 just 5:20 into the first quarter.

Ball State started its next drive off on its 38-yard line. The team gains just two yards before punting, Bowling Green taking over on its 11-yard line. James Knapke moved the chains with a short pass facing third and two, and Greene took off for another first down. Coppet broke off a first down of his own, but the drive collapsed and Ball State took over on its 29.

Darian Green took the handoff for nine yards, then a two-yard rush for a first down. Mann hit Jordan Williams for a first down to the Bowling Green 38-yard line, and after a screen pass and a run, the clock expired.
