Former NCAA coach and father of current Ball State assistant coach dies

Former NCAA men’s basketball head coach and father of current Ball State men’s basketball assistant coach Dan Peters has died at age 60.

"He was an awesome man. I greatly respect him. He was a good coach, a great friend and the best thing he did was be a dad," Ball State basketball coach James Whitford said. "I loved watching him with his family. We all knew it was coming but it’s a sad day nonetheless.

Peters served as director of basketball operations at Akron from 2009 until December 2013, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Ball State hired Peters’ son, Danny Peters, in June.
