FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State drops road match to Ohio

The Ball State field hockey team fell to the Ohio 5-3 on Oct. 19.

The Bobcats came out of the gate strong, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes.

In the second minute, Lauryl Desch scored her second of the season, while Adele Sammons capitalized in the eighth minute. The pair continued to dominate the game, as they scored all five of Ohio's goals.

The Cardinals came back to take control of the match in the later minutes of the first half.

In the 25th minute, senior midfielder Tori Widrick scored her fourth goal of the season. In the 28th minute, sophomore forward Morgan Nash recorded her first goal of the season. Three minutes later, sophomore forward Colleen McGlynn found the back of the net to put the Cardinals up 3-2.

With no time remaining on the clock in the first half, Desch scored her second goal of the match off the penalty corner to tie the match 3-3 at halftime.

Sammons scored again in the 44th minute to put the Bobcats on top 4-3 early in the second half.

In the 59th minute, the Bobcats went up 5-3 after Desch's third goal on the day. Ball State was unable to come back, sending the Cardinals to their second straight loss.

The Cardinals are now 5-9 overall with a 1-3 conference record. 

Ball State's next match is at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 against Kent State.
