The Ball State women’s volleyball team completed its first home sweep as it defeated Mid-American Conference foe Kent State Oct. 18 at Worthen Arena.

The win comes after the Cardinals fell to the Ohio Bobcats on Oct. 17.

Ball State used a balanced attack on offense, registering 48 kills. The Cardinals also hit very efficiently, as they finished the match with an attack percentage of .358.

The high attack percentage came after Ohio’s defense held Ball State to just .134 the night before.

Redshirt junior Hayley Benson and redshirt freshman Sabrina Mangapora both posted 12 kills on the night, tying for the team lead.

Middle attacker Kelly Hopkins added nine kills, while Amanda Raker had seven and Mackenzie Kitchel had six.

Setter Jenna Spadafora paced the offense with 44 assists in the match.

Middle attackers Benson and Hopkins combined to hit .667 and .571 respectively.

Defensively, Ball State held Kent State to just .110 on 32 total kills.

The Cardinals had five blocks as a team. Spadafora had one solo block and two assists, while Benson added three assists.

Libero Kati Vasalakis had 17 digs for Ball State to save many rallies. Freshman Marissa Hine was the only other Cardinal in double digits with 10.

The win moves Ball State’s overall record to 12-9. The Cardinals sit at 6-2 in MAC play.

Ball State returns to action at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 as it travels to take on Miami (Ohio).
