CLEVELAND–The Ball State Cardinals (28-4, 16-2 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament play with a 77-53 first round win against the Ohio Bobcats (11-19, 8-10 MAC) Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals have now advanced to the second round of the conference tournament each of the last three seasons.

CLEVELAND – The last time Nyla Hampton and Brady Sallee were in Cleveland, Ohio, at the same time, they were competing against one another. One was wearing the red and white of Ball State, shouting instructions to the Cardinals on the sideline as the other was matched up against said Cardinals in the brown and orange of Bowling Green.

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament marks the final step for eight teams' hopes and dreams of making the NCAA tournament. The record-breaking season Ball State women’s basketball (27-4, 16-2 MAC) has had up to this point has been the prelude to what their ultimate goal is: capturing a MAC championship and NCAA tournament berth.

LAPEL, IN - Coming into the IHSAA 2A and 3A regional championships at Lapel High School, Delaware County’s two remaining boys’ basketball teams looked to continue in the state tournament. After back-to-back victories, the Wapahani Raiders and Delta Eagles took home the hardware in both contests.

When he walked into the post-game press conference after playing his most minutes in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play in a 76-69 victory, he looked like he had just been put through the ringer.

Women’s basketball seniors Annie Rauch and Estel Puiggros have been roommates in the dorms and have now with each other for the past four years off campus. Rauch said she and Puiggros have been attached to the hip in their entire Cardinal career.

The Ball State Cardinals (25-4, 14-2 MAC) honored three seniors Saturday in their contest against the Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-21, 2-14 MAC). Ball State is sending seniors Estel Puiggros, Sydney Shafer and Annie Rauch off with a 75-47 win.

During the regular season, the Delta Eagles and Yorktown Tigers split the series with two completely different games. In the first game, the Eagles took the victory when senior Jackson Wors hit a game-winning layup.

In the Cardinals’ contest with Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon, Ball State junior Mickey Pearson went to the free throw line with one second left in overtime. He was fouled on a 3-point shot, which gave him a chance to tie the 76-74 difference or take the lead.

NEW CASTLE, IN - On Tuesday evening, Delta (18-6) faced off against Frankton (15-8) at the New Castle Fieldhouse in the quarterfinals of the IHSAA boys basketball state tournament. After a postseason run to semi-state last season, the Eagles hope to carry that experience and ride it to another deep run this year. In the end, Delta began their quest to another deep run by downing Frankton 46-25 to advance.
