Ball State Jazz Ensembles performed in Sursa Performance Hall on Feb. 1 for the Tom Shah Memorial Jazz Scholarship Award Concert. Shah, a Ball State graduate, was one of the victims of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hundreds of protestors gathered at the Indianapolis International Airport on Jan. 29 to protest President Trump's executive order on immigration. The order halts entry of all refugees to America for 120 days, refugees from Syria indefinitely and people from the predominantly Muslim countries of such as Iraq, Iran, Somalia and more for 90 days.

Geoffrey S. Mearns was named the 17th president of Ball State on Jan. 24 in Sursa Hall. Mearns contract with Northern Kentucky University does not end until July 31, and he plans to start at Ball State on August 1.
According to Indiana State Police, an estimated 4,500 to 5,000 people gathered outside the Indiana Statehouse on Jan. 21 for the Indianapolis Women's March. The rally was held in conjunction with hundreds of marches nationwide to protest the presidency of Donald Trump and support the rights of women, immigrants, LGBTQ and people of various religions.
