Debbie’s Handmade Soap is celebrating two years in downtown Muncie, but owner, Debbie Acree, has been making soaps for nineteen years.

The celebration will take place on Thursday Oct. 4th. Debbie’s Handmade Soap will have homemade pumpkin rolls and refreshments for customers during the celebration.

Specials the store will run include:
Buy 6 bars and get the 7th free
Buy 4 bath bombs get the 5th free

They’ll also have a gift basket drawing with $85 worth of products.

Acree’s store on Walnut St. was built from the ground up. She started off making two soaps, lavender and peppermint, but at the anniversary sale you can check out over sixty fragrances of soap.

She originally began making soap for her daughter who had eczema. She said while she was at a mom’s retreat, one of the speakers mentioned she was a soap maker. Acree talked to the speaker, but she made old fashioned lye soap, which wouldn’t hold scent.

Through a lot of research Acree said she figured out how to do it and began selling it at craft shows.

"I had returned customers and it was like okay I am on to something, you know,” said Acree.

Then she started selling it on her website seventeen years ago and since then she’s continued to add to her products. Along with soaps she sells lotions, bath bombs, lip balms and more.

Now her products are helping even more people. Soothing bars are one product Debbie’s Handmade Soap offers that helps with dry skin and eczema as well as psoriasis.

"I do it because I love it and I have thought a few times about selling the business just cause sometimes I get overwhelmed. But I don't know how I would handle life without making soap,” said Acree.

Debbie’s Handmade Soap will celebrate their two year anniversary on Thursday Oct. 4th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the store.
