After the ground near West Washington Street and North McKinley Avenue opened last week, the City of Muncie made a temporary $2,500 fix.

"So what they did was, they patched it Friday and they back filled it with concrete temporarily so the traffic can start rolling through McKinley today," said Chad Love, a camera crew inspector for the Muncie Sanitary District.
Love said the sinkhole was caused after a manhole fell in and broke the sewer line beneath.
While the initial fix, which is meant to last until after commencement, cost over $2,000 to repair, Nikki Grigsby, administrator of Muncie Sanitary District, said she is unsure of how long it will take to permanently repair the area.
The work will be performed through Bowen Engineering, Grigsby said, and Ball State will not be involved with the repairs.
