A Delaware County Sheriff's Deputy who was arrested on drug related charges Sept. 14 appeared in court on Monday.

Jerry Parks was charged with two counts of dealing marijuana with an amount of at least 10 pounds, neglect of a dependent, possession of a narcotic drug and maintaining a common nuisance.

According to Indiana State Code a person commits a common nuisance when they knowingly or intentionally maintain a building, structure, vehicle, or other place that is used one or more times for:

  • Unlawfully using controlled substances
  • Unlawfully manufacturing, keeping, offering for sale, selling, delivering or financing the delivery of controlled substances or items of drug paraphernalia

Judge Kimberley Dowling of Delaware County Circuit Court 2, entered Parks as not guilty due to Parks not having a attorney.

Police said a confidential informant told them Parks, a former K-9 handler, kept drugs for "safekeeping." The informant also said Parks gave information to the informant about undercover deputies working in the narcotics unit.

Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley said Parks submitted his resignation to him days after his arrest.
