Former MCHS volleyball coach accused of sex with player

A former Muncie Central High School coach has been accused of repeatedly having sex with a 15-year-old player.

The girls volleyball coach Nolan Michael Brand, 24, was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child seduction and child exploitation.

Brand, who served as an assistant coach for MCHS and coached for the local Munciana Volleyball Club, was released from Delaware County jail Monday night after posting a $40,000 bond.

Muncie Community Schools officials released a statement Tuesday saying they contacted the Muncie Police Department SMART Team and Child Protective Services earlier this week after allegations were made by a female student against Brand.

The investigation uncovered that Brand and the minor exchanged multiple Snapchats and text messages which included sexual photographs and videos, according to a probable cause affidavit. Brand told police that he did have sexual relations with the minor in both his home and his vehicle.

Brand ended his employment with MCS on Oct. 14, two-and-half months after being employed, according to the statement.

“We are obviously shocked and dismayed by the allegations,” Ana Pichardo, MCS spokesperson said. “We will continue to support all of our students and families while assisting investigators during their investigation.”
