Hosts Josh Shelton and Robby General go through some of the biggest football games going on in the Delaware County area heading into week eight as well as the Game of the Week — Wes-Del (2-5) vs. Edinburgh (0-7).
After finding out their sectional draws last week, both teams will be looking to make their presence known in the final two weeks of the regular season.
Monroe Central (7-0) at Anderson Prep (0-7)
For the first time this year, Monroe Central was challenged, but still pulled out a 46-21 win to keep its perfect season a live.
Coming in at 0-7, Anderson Prep appears to be the underdog in this home matchup. Anderson Prep gives up 34 or more points per game while Monroe Central has outscored opponents 287-39 this season.
New Castle (4-3) at New Palestine (7-0)
New Castle is coming off a big 56-36 win against Mt. Vernon last week, pushing the team to third in the Hoosier Heritage conference standings.
It will be another clash of offenses as New Castle travels to play a dominant New Palestine team who remains the only undefeated team in the conference. New Castle quarterback Niah Williamson will look to continue his offensive production, putting up 36 touchdowns this year.
Yorktown (2-6) at Pendleton Heights (6-1)
After starting off the season 2-0, Yorktown hasn't found a way to pull off another win. Reid Neal got injured in last week's game, forcing Brandt Applegate to run a wildcat style offense under center.
With Neal questionable to play on Friday night, it's hard to determine if Yorktown will have too much of an offensive presence, especially against a Pendleton Heights team that's given up the second lowest amount of points against in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.
Muncie Central (1-6) vs. McCutcheon (4-3)
It's the tale of two seasons for these two teams. Muncie Central has had a rough first season under first year head coach Scott Pethtel, losing a number of close games in the process.
McCutcheon is on the other side of the script, however. After starting 0-3, the Mavericks have bounced back in a big way, winning four straight games and outscoring opponents 107-29 during that stretch.
Delta (4-3) at Greenfield-Central (4-4)
Delta scored only 13 points, its lowest point total of the season, against Pendleton Heights last week. This week, however, Delta seems to be going against an evenly matched opponent in Greenfield-Central.
A win for Delta this week would be huge. The Eagles are just 2-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, but can move past Greenfield-Central and potentially New Castle into 3rd or 4th place with a win. Running back Charlie Spegal, who is now at 1,791 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns this season, will look to lead Delta to victory.
Game of the Week: Wes-Del (2-5) vs. Edinburgh (0-7)
Wes-Del won just its second game of the week last season, beating Tinley 8-6 on the road, but that doesn't mean its not a team to be reckoned with going into the last stretch of the season.
Close losses have plagued this team this year. Wes-Del lost 19-6 to Alexandria-Monroe in week one, 6-0 to Eastern in week three and 32-34 to Tri in week four. While it hasn't been the best year for the unit, head coach Brad Hess is confident in his team moving forward, especially in senior quarterback Camden Townsend, who Hess said has remained confident despite the close losses.
Edinburgh has struggled this year under the direction of a brand new head coach, who joined in late June and several young starters at key skill positions. Freshman running back Austin Streeval leads the team with 57 carries and 235 yards while sophomore quarterback Tyson Sackman is in control of the offense, scoring five touchdowns this season.
This season, Edinburgh has been outscored 354-118 by opponents, but Wes-Del doesn't put up a lot of points either.
