Ball State football vs. Western Michigan quarter updates

First Quarter

Ball State lost the toss and Western Michigan received the ball first. On the opening kickoff, Western Michigan forced a fumble and Davon Tucker returned it 21 yards for a touchdown giving the Broncos a 7-0 lead.

The Cardinals got one first down on the next drive before punting. Western Michigan took the ball 89 yards in just over 4:30, capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass to Keishawn Watson for another WMU touchdown.

Ball State responded by taking it all the way down to the WMU 15 yard line, but Morgan Hagee missed a 32 yard attempt wide right. Still 14--0.

Western Michigan punted on its next possession, pinning Ball State at its own 1-yard line.

Second quarter

Western Michigan takes over at the Ball State 41 after a three and out. The Broncos use a five play drive capped by a seven yard TD run by sophomore running back LeVante Bellamy to take a 21-0 lead.

Both teams exchange a pair of three and outs. Ball State takes over from its own 11 with 9:47 left in the half. The Cardinals go three and out once again.

Western Michigan pulls off its second 41-yard drive of the game, this time capped off by a 1-yd touchdown run by Jarvion Franklin. 28-0 Broncos.

Ball State goes three and out again. Western Michigan takes over at its own 33. Quarterback Jon Wassink finds D'Wayne Eskridge for 49 yards to move WMU to the Ball State 18 yard line. Western Michigan has a touchdown called back on a block in the back penalty and settles for a 43-yard field goal. 31-0 Broncos with 1:09 left.

Third quarter

Ball State fails on the surprise onside attempt to open the second half. Western Michigan responds with a 2 play drive capped with a touchdown pass by Wassink to Ernsberger. 38-0 WMU.

Ball State finally finds the scoreboard. After failing on three goal-to-go situations from the Western Michigan 1, Malik Dunner found the end zone on an end around. However, that was called back due to holding leading Ball State to attempt a 28 yard field goal, which junior Morgan Hagee drilled. 38-3 Broncos.

Wassink finds Watson once again for a touchdown, this time from 52 yards away. 45-3 Western Michigan.

Milas is intercepted and WMU returns it to the Ball State 10 yard line. A sideline interference penalty meant WMU starts at the 25. Western is held to a 33 yard field goal. 48-3.

48-3 Broncos at the end of three.

Fourth quarter

Ball State punter Nathan Snyder is sacked after failing to get a punt away. WMU took over at the BSU 12 and found the end zone two plays later on an 11-yard touchdown run by Davon Tucker. 55-3 Broncos.

Ball State falls to Western Michigan, 55-3. Full recap to come.
