Internationally-known acoustic guitarists Loren and Mark will perform at 7:30 tonight in Pruis Hall.

Loren Barrigar and Mark Mazengarb, or Loren and Mark, are a musical duo known for their diverse musical platform, which includes a mixture of pop, country, bluegrass and jazz.

“What we do is very unique. Not many people play the guitar like we do,” Mazengarb said. “We play a wide variety of music, sing together, have high energy and we are music focused.”

Mark Mazengarb is originally from New Zealand. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an exchange student, where he studied classical guitar.

While in college, Mazengarb attended a guitar camp where he met Loren Barrigar. When the two met, Mazengarb said they had an instant connection.

The director of the camp, Tommy Emmanuel, is a two-time Grammy award-nominated guitarist who also performed at Pruis in 2009. After sending several requests, the duo will finally get to perform in the same location.

“What makes Loren and Mark so special is that they are phenomenal in their craft,” said Kristi Chambers, assistant director of marketing and communications for Emens Auditorium. “People travel hours to see them perform.”

Chambers is not only excited to attend the event, but encourages BSU students to attend as well.

“To me, it’s most rewarding when we can give something positive for people who have had a hard week and make them happy during our performance,” she said.

Mazengarb is looking forward to sharing the experience of listening to the duo and also hopes to have a rewarding experience himself.
