Crime Roundup: UPD investigates shots fired

Editor's note: The Weekly Crime Roundup is based on reports from the Muncie and University Police Departments. Reported crimes are based on proximity to Ball State's campus and/or the severity of the crime. 

What's been happening with crime in Muncie? Here's this week's Crime Roundup from July 15 through July 19. 

Saturday, July 15   

Ball State University Police Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of N. Reserve and W. Beechwood around 6 p.m.   

Joshua Vance, Muncie, was cited for carrying a handgun without a license, possession of marijuana, and seat belt violation by occupants of a motor vehicle. 

Monday, July 17   

Indiana State Police released a sketch of a man, who police are considering a main suspect in the killing of two teens in Delphi.

Wednesday, July 19   

Officers of the Ball State University Police Department got a report of shots fired around 2 a.m. in the area of W. Main St. and N. Dill St.    

The officers responded to the area and at 2:11 a.m., an information only alert was sent out to students:“Officers are investigating and checking the area of Main/Dill on reports of shots fired from a vehicle.”   

“A witness gave information that the shots may have come from a vehicle,” said UPD Cpt. Rhonda Clark.   

At 2:25 a.m., an ambulance was requested at W. University Ave. and N. Dill St. for an overdose.    

Paul Singleton, director of Delaware County Emergency Communications Center said in an email, “Notes of [the] call show possible alcohol.”   

There is no connection between the individuals from the overdose call and the shots fired call.   

 At 2:32 a.m., another BSU Alert message was sent advising that there was no ongoing threat to campus.  

“No injuries were reported and no arrests were made,” Clark said.   

Other News:   

On Wednesday, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said their final goodbyes to one of their K-9’s.
