John Emert recently accepted the position of Dean of the Honors College.
Emert became acting dean of the Honors College in 2016, after former dean James Ruebel died, and served as associate dean of the Honors College beginning in 2008.
Emert served the department as the director of undergraduate programs and department chair since coming to Ball State in 1989. He received bachelor's degrees in mathematics and music along with a masters and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Tennessee.
In a campus-wide email, Emert was described to have "developed several interdisciplinary colloquia linking the sciences, arts and humanities." During his time working in the Honors College, Emert led several field studies and received the C. Warren Vander Hill Award for Distinguished Teaching in Honors Education in 2011.
As the associate dean, Emert oversaw honors curriculum, senior theses and study abroad programs.
Emert's new duties as dean include "leading efforts to enhance research, study abroad, and innovation fellowships for current students, enhance recruitment of future students and ensure that the Honors College community of students, alumni, faculty, and staff continues to thrive," according to the email.
