Crime Roundup: Robberies, overdoses, intoxication arrests
What's been happening with crime in Muncie? Here is the crime roundup for the week of June 9-15.
Friday, June 9
Indiana Conservation Officers were patrolling in the area of Ohio Avenue and East Jackson St. when they observed a male operating a moped with no license plate.
When the officers attempted to stop the moped, the driver, Eddie Vance, 57, Muncie, failed to stop and crashed in parking lot.
Vance allegedly took off on foot and an officer tried to unsuccessfully tase him. After Vance was put to the ground, he continued to resist and bit the arm of one of the officers.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers located a Crown Royal bag with a large amount of narcotics.
Vance was taken to the Delaware County Jail with preliminary charges of possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement, possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and battery.
Saturday, June 10
An officer of the Muncie Police Department was dispatched to the 800 block of E. Centennial in reference to an overdose around 4:20 p.m.
Michael O'Neal, 39, was laying on the ground of the Muncie Sanitary District unconscious. O'Neal regained consciousness after EMS gave him two doses of Naloxone, a drug the reverses the effects of an overdose, according to reports.
After EMS transported O'Neal to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, the officer allegedly located a backpack belonging to O'Neal containing two spoons, torn filters, five syringes, one of which contained heroin, and a white pill.
O'Neal was eventually arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail. He was preliminary charged with two counts of possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, possession or use of legend drug or precursor and possession of syringe.
Sunday, June 11
According to crime logs from Ball State University Police Department, between Sunday and Wednesday, police investigated 11 thefts from vehicles and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle cases. On Monday, UPD issued a public safety advisory.
Monday, June 12
Officers of the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of E. Depauw in reference to a domestic around 7:40 p.m.
The officers determined that the domestic dispute was unfounded. In a probable cause affidavit, an officer said Amanda Winters, 32, Muncie, had two active warrants. Winters was allegedly "so intoxicated she fell down in the street," when officers found her and had a laceration on her leg.
Once at the hospital, Winters used derogatory terminology to the hospital workers and officers. Before being transported to the Delaware County Jail Winters told the officer she wanted to cut him into pieces, according to the affidavit.
Winters was preliminary charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, intimidation and booked on two outstanding warrants.
Thursday, June 15
Shortly before noon, a masked bandit held up the Save On Liquor store in the 1900 block of S. Madison St.
The Star Press reported the robber, "pointed a handgun at a store clerk and demanded cash."
