Crime Roundup: Officers arrest several after overdoses

What's been happening with crime in Muncie? Here's this week's Crime Roundup from May 20-22.

Saturday, May 20 

An officer of the Muncie Police Department responded to the report of a heroin overdose in the 2200 block of S. Rosemont shortly after 12 p.m.

Members of the Muncie Fire Department and the PD officer saw Krista Duncan, 30, Muncie, laying on her back on the living room floor, with a syringe lying near her. 

EMS arrived and administered Narcan. 

In a probable cause affidavit, the officer said the syringe had a clear liquid in it and tested positive for methamphetamine.

Duncan was transported to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and then to the Delaware County Jail. 

Duncan was taken in on outstanding warrants for her arrest and was preliminary charged with possession of a syringe. 

Also on Saturday, MPD made an arrest after a Muncie woman stole over $750 in items at Wal-Mart. 

In a probable cause affidavit, loss prevention associates told the MPD they observed Nancy Brauberger, 57, Muncie, place clothes into her bag.

Brauberger claimed she was seeing how much she could fit in the bags and still have room on the bus.

Brauberger was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail on an outstanding warrant and preliminary charged with theft. 

Sunday, May 21

Around 9:30 p.m., MPD responded to an overdose at the 300 block of W. Cromer Avenue. 

The officer arrived and located an "unconscious white male subject lying on the kitchen floor," according to a the probable cause affidavit

Muncie Fire Department and EMS arrived and gave aid to William Curtis, 51. 

The Muncie man was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital after EMS and MFD were able to resuscitate him. 

In the kitchen where Curtis had overdosed, the officer noticed several syringes and paraphernalia items. 

Curtis was cleared from the hospital and taken to the Delaware County Jail and is preliminary charged with possession of a syringe and visiting a common nuisance - drugs. 

Monday, May 22 

MPD responded to the 1900 block of East Cedar Street shortly before 1:45 a.m. for a shooting. 

According to The Star Press, a woman was in bed when she suffered a gun shot wound in the leg. 

The gunshots, which were fired from outside the house, believed to have come from the west side of the house. 

At the time The Star Press spoke with Muncie police Capt. Joe Todd, the investigators had no suspects. 

Officers of the Muncie police department also conducted a traffic stop on a stolen moped around 9:15 p.m. Monday.

MPD attempted to arrested the driver and the passenger struggled with them. 

The officers arrested two for theft, battery with injury to police and other charges.
