Ball State season best scores

Vault: 49.000 (vs. Western Michigan 3/7/17 and vs. N.C. State Jan. 20)

Bars: 48.850 (vs. Western Michigan and Illinois-Chicago today)

Beam: 48.800 (vs. Central Michigan Jan. 12)

Floor: 49.500 (vs. Western Michigan Monday) 

Overall: 195.450 (vs. Western Michigan & Illinois-Chicago today)

Ball State gymnastics (6-9, 3-3 MAC) won its first meet in almost a month against Western Michigan (3-4, 2-4 MAC) and Illinois-Chicago (2-8, 1-1 MAC).

The Cardinals held first place in three of the four events to win with their highest score of the season, 195.450-195.175-194.300.

The team saw the majority of its points come from the vault as three Cardinals placed in the top five. Sophomore Kaitlyn Menzione saw a new personal best, taking first with a score of 9.875. Senior Sarah Ebeyer followed, taking second with a score of 9.850. Freshman Bri Solnim took fourth with a score of 9.800. This strong performance tied the Cardinals' season-high score on vault of 49.000.

The Cardinals also finished with a new season high on bars with a score of 48.850.

The team’s previous overall season high was 195.425 against Central Michigan on Feb. 12.

Other notable finishes included a third-place tie from junior Baylee Bell on beam with a score of 9.825, a second-place finish by junior Jordyn Penny on bars with a score of 9.825 and a third-place tie by Menzione on bars with a score of 9.800. Sophomore Maddie Howell also debuted on floor, scoring 9.750 in returning to the all-around position.

Ball State takes on Kent State in Kent, Ohio, on Friday in its final conference meet before the MAC championship. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
