A 20-year-old Middletown man was found shot to death in the 800 block of west Main Street early Thursday.

Chief Joe Winkle of the Muncie Police Department said authorities believe multiple gunshots were fired at 808 W. Main St. The victim is said to be a white male by the name of Zackary M. Farmer. Winkle said there is no new information about the motive for the shooting, but drugs may have played a role.

An autopsy is to be conducted at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital today.

Emergency dispatchers said shots were fired in the area around 3:58 a.m. Winkle said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Winkle said investigators are still interviewing people who were there. The Muncie Police Department will have more information throughout the day.

Darla Davis, a witness, was on her cell phone when she heard the shots fired.

“I heard three fast shots and then four to five followed at a slower pace.”

She quickly ran to her window and saw two young males exit a black car and acting suspicious. Davis said police soon arrived.

“I heard the police holler three times, ‘get back in the car’ and ‘do not get out,’” she said.

Davis saw the victim’s body and was shocked.

“It was horrible to see it laying there,” Davis said.

Davis said she has never felt safe in the community and worries about her safety.

“I’m scared," she said. "I’m really scared now.”

This story will be updated.
