Ball State renews its in-state rivalry with Indiana Sept 10. The two programs haven’t met since 2012, when Ball State kicker Steven Schott kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Hoosiers 41-39.

The Cardinals have also won the last three games against its Big Ten rival, but coach Mike Neu is determined to keep the focus on this week's game.

“Yes, Ball State has won the last three,” Neu said. “Our guys know that we have to get back to having a great week of practice and we will play on [Sept. 10] the way that we practice.”

The Cardinals (1-0), beat Georgia State 31-21 in its season opener behind 325 rushing yards and touchdowns from three different running backs.

Kickoff for is scheduled for 4 p.m Sept. 10 in Bloomington. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNews. It will also be broadcast on WLBC radio.

Women's volleyball

The Cardinals (0-8) will look for their first win of the season in the Morehead State Invitational in Morehead, Kentucky, this weekend. Ball State is coming off a straight-set loss to Butler on Sept. 7. Freshman Kate Avila recorded a team-high 14 digs and had a perfect reception percentage (12-12) in the team's loss.

The Cardinals first game is Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. against Northern Kentucky, followed by a 7 p.m. matchup against Morehead State later that night. On Sept. 10, they'll take on Appalachian State at 11:30 a.m.

Soccer

Ball State (3-2-1) looks to rebound from two shutout losses last weekend when the team travels to Kentucky to take on Louisville (4-1-1).

Head coach Craig Roberts said while this game presents another challenging opponent, it provides his team with a chance to continue to show improvement. Roberts said he believes his team can make the necessary corrections to get better results this weekend.

“We need to make sure that we can play at a quicker pace,” Roberts said. “The trip to California was meant to challenge us and show us the speed needed in order to play at a higher level. We will continue to compete and move forward.”

The game will be played at Lynn Stadium in Louisville on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Field hockey

Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week Jordan Dues and the Cardinals head to Evanston, Illinois, for a pair of games this weekend. Dues, a senior goalkeeper, and the team are off to a 3-1 start, already an improvement on last season's 2-16 mark.

The Cardinals will play Northwestern (2-2) on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. and Colgate (0-3) on Sept. 10 at noon.
