The America Multi-Sport will be hosting the third annual Indiana Spring Sprint Triathlon and 5K at Ball State this weekend with the 100th Running Host Committee of the Indy 500 as the special guests.

America Multi-Sport is based in Muncie and specializes in fitness- and health-related events. The company is one of the top 30 companies in the United States that hosts triathlons, 10Ks and 5Ks, according to americamultisport.com.

One of the biggest events the company hosts is the Indiana Spring Sprint Triathlon and 5K.

This year’s Indiana Spring Sprint Triathlon and 5K begins at 11 a.m. April 30 at the Lewellen Aquatics Center pool.

The course features two distances, a pool swim and a four-loop bike course throughout campus, said Megan Bousley, public relations and marketing coordinator at America Multi-Sport.

In addition to the sprint triathlon, duathlon and aqua bike, there is a miniature sprint triathlon targeted toward beginners, she said.

The event is expected to bring a total of 1,000 people in to Muncie.

The setup of the course along with the location of the race gives a presence in the community and promotes the importance of healthy lifestyles, Bousley said.

“Having a presence in Muncie, specifically on such a visible spot as Ball State, allows the community to see the race in action,” Bousley said. “By adding the 5K option, we’re making the event accessible to people of all abilities to get outside and start getting healthy and fit.”

This year’s race is extra special with the Host Committee of the Indy 500 involved.

“We’re so excited to have the Host Committee at our event,” Bousley said. “Having them at the race shows a connection between the Indy 500 and local communities all around Indiana, which is integral to the success of both events, as well as statewide community pride.”

The Host Committee will provide prizes, including a shirt and finisher medal, according to the press release. Overall winners will receive tickets to Qualifications and the Angie’s List Grand Prix.

Giveaways will be up for grabs as well, including T-shirts and posters. All attendees will also have a chance to “kiss the bricks” at the finish line.
