Alex Pia named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

Ball State men's volleyball junior middle attacker Alex Pia was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association player of the week. 

The Cardinals played in-state rival Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and Barton, sweeping them both. Pia earned six block assists in each of the victories and finished the weekend with 12 blocks on nine kills. 

Pia was also a force on the offensive end, where he made 24 serves with no errors as well as boasting a .467 attack percentage in only six sets. 

This season, Pia has the third-best attack percentage for the Cardinals with a season mark of .477. He also has 51 season kills and leads the team in total blocks with 51. 

Pia and the Cardinals welcome No. 8 Loyola on Feb. 17 and No. 14 Lewis on Feb. 18, with both matches set to start at 7:30 p.m.
