Feb. 27 - Western Kentucky - 9-1 W (5 innings)

Feb. 28 - Valparaiso - 8-1 W

The Cardinals opened up the weekend on Feb. 26 with a 6-3 win over Southeast Missouri. The effort was led by senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach, who was hit-less through her first 4.2 innings with zero earned runs.

Steinbach finished the weekend with 16.1 innings of work in her three victorious appearances. She allowed 11 hits, three earned runs and struck out 14 opponents throughout the course of the weekend.

On Feb. 27, the Cardinals played a doubleheader against Western Carolina and tournament host Western Kentucky. The Cardinals won both games 5-4 and 9-1, respectively.

Head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said it was "a good day for the program," as the Cardinals brought in 18 total hits and three home runs.

Three-hit days came from freshman catcher Madison Lee, junior utility player Amanda Arnett and junior outfielder/infielder Rachel Houck.

Lee led the Cardinals on the final day of competition with three RBIs. Two of those came off of a third-inning double, which shattered the scoreless game against in-state rival Valparaiso, where the Cardinals finished 8-1.

Lee had seven hits over the weekend, which came off of two doubles and three RBIs. She improved her batting average to .444 on the season.

Junior first-baseman Amanda Arnett went 7-15 (.467) over the weekend with three rbi’s and two homeruns while batting lead-off for the Cardinals.

“It’s nice to start to see a level of consistency up and down the lineup,” said Bartlett in a statement.

The Cardinals will travel to Florida for spring Break, which will include games at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament, Central Florida Tournament and Jacksonville Tournament.
