Ball State football coach Mike Neu made the first addition to his coaching staff Jan. 13.

Louisiana native Johnny Curtis was the assistant football coach at John Curtis Christian School and will take over as the special teams and linebackers coach for the Cardinals, according to the John Curtis Christian's athletics website.

Curtis graduated from John Curtis Christian School in 1991 and went on to graduate from Tulane University in 1996. In the 1995 season, Curtis was one of three Tulane captains as the team finished 2-9 overall.

For 19 years, Curtis has coached and taught at John Curtis Christian. This season, the varsity football team went 8-3 overall with a 4-2-conference record. They dropped the Louisiana state Division I semi-final game to conference rival Archbishop Rummel 24-10.

Curtis was also the head baseball coach, leading the team to win the 2015 3A Louisiana baseball championship. Due to his leave, his brother Jeff will take over as the head baseball coach.
