The 2016 Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., and aired on NBC Jan. 10. The ceremony is regarded as the official kick-off to the awards season, finishing off with the Oscars in February.

Ricky Gervais returned as host of the show after Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took over hosting duties for three years. The actor and comedian poked fun at Caitlyn Jenner, NBC and Donald Trump during the show.

When talking about Jenner’s transition he said, “She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn't do a lot for women drivers," referring to Jenner’s car accident in early 2015.

Later in the show, Gervais introduced actresses Eva Longoria and America Ferrera and said they are "two people your future president, Donald Trump, can't wait to deport."

Gervais said in his opening monologue he would try to be nice and tweeted apologies in advance a few weeks prior.

Rachel Bloom won for Best Performace by an Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” on The CW Network. This came as a surprise, considering this category was crowded with big names such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Lily Tomlin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and last year’s winner Gina Rodriguez. In her speech, Bloom thanked the president of the network for giving the show a chance after six other networks rejected it.

The last time he was nominated for a Golden Globe was in 1977 for the original “Rocky” film. In his speech he said, “I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had.”

The award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Televison went to Lady Gaga for “American Horror Story: Hotel." This is Gaga’s first nomination and win at the Golden Globes.

Gaga got emotional while thanking her cast and said this was “one of the greatest moments of my life.” Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, check out Leonardo DiCaprio’s reaction when she walked by.
