Many gaming sites already report and cover professional gaming, and have dedicated sections on their sites for eSports.

On Thursday, ESPN opened its first official section of the site dedicated to eSports, with tabs for League of Legends, Dota 2, and Hearthstone. This development is quite surprising, considering ESPN president John Skipper stated in the past that eSports aren’t real sports, “they are a competition.”

Many gaming sites already report and cover professional gaming, and have dedicated sections on their sites for eSports. The development of ESPN deciding to cover professional gaming officially has left many hopeful that eSports is becoming more and more accepted within the general populace.

This announcement came right after Activision purchased Major League Gaming for $46 million, with CEO Bobby Kotick stating that the purchase “furthers our plans to create the ESPN of eSports.”

Looks like ESPN wants to keep its crown as being the official news source for anything sports related, even if it’s not “real sports”.

You can find ESPN’s official eSports page here.
