Ball State's all-time leading rusher has his next shot in the NFL.

Jahwan Edwards signed a deal to join the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad. He was originally signed by the San Diego Chargers after going undrafted this year.

Edwards, a 5-foot-9, 220-pound tailback, rushed 17 times for 55 yards in the preseason with a long of 42 yards. He had 11 carries for 53 in the team's first preseason game against Dallas.

Edwards set Ball State records for rushing yards (4,558), touchdowns (51) and rushing attempts (884). He was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection.

He joins former Cardinals alumni Keith Wenning (Bengals) and Eric Patterson (Colts) on NFL practice squads. Willie Snead (Saints) and Jonathan Newsome (Colts) each made opening-day rosters.
