Summer TV season includes several brand new drama, sci-fi, comedy series

As summer boredom sets in and the fifth season of “Game of Thrones” comes to an end, fill that void with one of these brand new drama, sci-fi or comedy series.

DRAMA



“Wayward Pines”

Airtime: 9 p.m. Thursdays on Fox

This drama-thriller miniseries follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) on a mission to find two missing agents. This search leads him to the small, strange town of Wayward Pines. He finds himself unable to leave, and must deal with the town’s secrets and rules.

“Aquarius”

Airtime: 9 p.m. Thursdays on NBC

In the 13-episode event series, L.A. police sergeant Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny) is working on a missing persons case with Brian Shafe (Grey Damon) in 1967. Their search eventually leads them to Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony).

“UnREAL”

This drama series dives into a reality dating show called “Everlasting.” Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby) works for the show and must exploit her relationships with contestants to produce the viral footage the show’s producer is looking for.

“The Astronaut Wives Club”

Based on Lily Koppel’s book “The Astronaut Wives Club: A True Story,” this drama follows the seven women married to America’s Mercury Seven astronauts. The lives of the women are transformed as they suddenly become famous while their husbands follow their missions in space.

Although Elliot (Rami Malek) works as a cyber security engineer during the day, at night he is a vigilante hacker. “The Whispers”

A paranormal force haunts Earth by manipulating children to achieve its goals in this sci-fi drama series. The children start communicating with an imaginary friend named Drill, almost driving one of the children to murder her mother.



“Sense8”

In this sci-fi drama series, eight strangers from seven different countries become “sensates,” as they are all connected mentally. They can hear what other sensates hear and feel what other sensates feel. Soon they discover they are being hunted by an organization that sees them as a threat.

In a parallel present in suburban London, families begin to want “Synths,” artificially intelligent robot servants. The robots are so similar to humans that the differences between humans and machines start to fade.

“Zoo”

Animal attacks on humans start to become more dangerous and organized over time in this sci-fi drama series. Jackson Oz (James Wolk), an American zoologist, tries to discover how and why these attacks are occurring.

“Ballers”

This show follows retired athlete Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson) as he simultaneously deals with retirement and mentors other current, and former, football players. One of these players is Charles (Omar Benson Miller), who is a former athlete trying to find his next career.

“The Brink”
