Delaware County Sheriff dies after surgery

Delaware County Sheriff Mike Scroggins died early Friday morning at the age of 52, just a few days after surgery.

The sheriff’s office confirmed he died in Ohio after receiving major surgery to his shoulder. Tammy Steinfeld, a Sheriff's Office employee, said that is all the information she has at the time.

Scroggins is a 29-year veteran of the force who in 2001 graduated from the FBI National Academy. He was elected as a democrat in 2011.

The Democratic party will have a caucus to fill his position until the next election in 2018.
