Woodstock: a weekend of peace, love and music – the ultimate festival experience. Too bad it happened in 1969. Luckily, Indiana is in a central location for an abundance of festivals happening this summer.

Lollapalooza released its 2015 line-up on March 25, and tickets are already completely sold out just one day later. This annual three-day festival held in Chicago is going to have some of the biggest headliners yet, according to faithful "Lolla" lovers.

Sophomore international business major Lauren Davis, currently studying abroad in Spain, made sure she got her Lolla tickets on time, even from 4,000 miles away.

Paul McCartney, Metallica, Sam Smith, Kid Cudi and Florence + the Machine are just some of the big names that will be headlining at Lollapalooza from July 31-Aug. 2.

Junior architecture major Nicole Schendl has faithfully attended Lollapalooza for years.

“The best thing about going to these events is that you get to see so many bands for such a good price. You just have to pick and choose what you want to see. Would you rather see several really good bands or wait hours to be in the front row of your favorite band?” Schendl said.

Schendl is anticipating a great performance from Alt-J and Florence + the Machine.

A key thing that junior advertising major Megan Montblanc remembers about going to festivals is to stay hydrated.

“[Lollapalooza’s] a very thirsty time in the jungle,” she said.

In addition to staying hydrated, Montblanc recommends all festival-goers wear a good pair of shoes. Montblanc is most looking forward to Of Monsters and Men, Sam Smith, Kid Cudi and more at Lollapalooza.

For those disappointed about Lolla tickets being sold out, there are still a number of festivals in the area this summer.

Sam Smith, Florence + the Machine, Kendrick Lamar, Mumford and Sons, Tove Lo and AWOLNATION are some of the big headliners headed to Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., from June 11-14.

Other nearby festivals students can attend this summer include Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio, The Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Ky., and Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Mich.

Junior business marketing major Aubrey Hanna attended Electric Forest last summer.

This summer, it will run June 25-28 and host Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Little People, Break Science and G-Eazy.

“It’s the best experience of your life. Everybody has so much love for each other, and the music is beautiful,” Hanna said.

Hanna will be returning to Electric Forest this summer, eagerly waiting to hear ODESZA.

Bunbury will feature The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers and Snoop Dogg, and Forecastle plans on showcasing Sam Smith, My Morning Jacket and Modest Mouse.
