Ball State picks up 18-8 win over Elon for 2nd win of day

The Ball State baseball team scored in every inning but one in an 18-8 win over Elon for its second victory of the day on Saturday.

The Cardinals benefitted from 16 hits and four Phoenix errors, leading to more runs.

Three Ball State players had three hits in the game, and senior Elbert Deverie added a home run. Sophomores Alex Call, Jarrett Rindfleisch and Sean Kennedy had three RBIs apiece for the Cardinals.

Sophomore Matt Eppers recorded two doubles and two RBIs also.

On the mound, freshman Trevor Henderson pitched 4.2 innings before he was chased during a seven-run fifth inning for the Phoenix. He allowed seven total hits and five earned runs.

Among four relief pitchers, fifth-year senior Devin Wilburn picked up the win for Ball State, striking out eight in 2.2 innings. He allowed just two hits.

With its third straight win, Ball State improves to 3-2 on the season. Its final game in Aiken, S.C. will come at 11 a.m. on Feb. 22 against Elon.
