Disney’s Latina princess

Announcing, Her Royal Highness Princess Elena of Avalor, Disney’s first Latina Princess.

Princess of Avalor will make her debut on a special episode of Disney Junior’s “Sofia the First” in 2016. A spin-off series, “Elena of Avalor,” should follow.

Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan for Latinas said, “Having a princess, role model who looks like them is a huge step forward for girls’ self-perception everywhere. Most Latinas have darker skin tones, so Elena is very welcome!”

Samantha Leal, Deputy Editor of Latina.com, said she’s happy about the announcement, but hopes to see continued efforts from Disney to diversify its heroines.

ABC Family fans may also recognize the voice of twenty-six-year-old Latina star of “Young and Hungry,” Aimee Carrero, as the latest edition to Disney royalty.

Katy Perry hints at halftime show details

Super Bowl XLIX is just one day away and Katy Perry will be taking the stage during halftime.

During a press conference, Perry donning a custom-made football dress, hinted at a surprise guest saying, “It will be a real female fun night.”

She also let a few more secrets slip. “I'm probably going to be the only person in Super Bowl halftime history that will ever bring a lion and sharks to the show,” she said.

And although she didn’t give away too much, Perry said her entrance and exit would make history.

“Nothing in my performance will be deflated,” she said, referencing the recent Deflate-gate controversy where the New England Patriots were accused of purposefully tampering with their footballs during the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts two weeks ago.
