Muncie meters make progress

<p></p>

Muncie city parking code enforcement has implemented new parking meters along Riverside and University avenues.

Instead of coin-operated meters that only give a maximum of 45 minutes parking time, these meters allow drivers to swipe debit or credit cards. A smart phone application notifies the driver when their time is close to expiring and gives them the option to pay for more time.

"They could be in a meeting, and it [smart phone] will will notify them when there's about 10 or 15 minutes left," parking officer Teresa Brown said.

Ball State parking services has not made they change. The old meters that only accept silver coins still stand throughout campus.
