FOOTBALL: Ball State vs. Eastern Michigan quarter updates

Fourth Quarter

At the end of the fourth quarter, Ball State came away with a 45-30 win.

Edwards broke off a 27-yard gain to the Eastern Michigan 35 on the first play of the quarter, but Ball State was forced to settle for a field goal, extending the lead to 38-16.

Eastern Michigan started its drive off on its own 25. On the first play, Ball State recovered a fumble on the Eastern Michigan 44-yard line. Mann hit Lacanaria to the 25-yard line. Green took the ball to the five-yard line, and Mann hit Dylan Curry for the touchdown, extending the lead to 45-16.

After the touchback, Eastern Michigan started off on its own 25-yard line. Bell Jr. carried for 19 yards before picking up another first down. He hit Creel for a reception to the Ball State 15, and then found Strange for a first down to the four-yard line. Bell Jr. then found Jackson for a touchdown, cutting the Ball State lead to 45-23 after the extra point.

KeVonn Mabon took the kickoff out to the Ball State 36. The Cardinals quickly punted, the Eagles taking over on their own 30.

A long 70-yard drive was capped by a six-yard touchdown pass from Bell Jr. to Strange. After the extra point, Ball State still held the lead 45-30.

Ball State recovered the onside kick attempt and ran out the clock, ending the game.

Third Quarter

At the end of the third quarter, Ball State leads Eastern Michigan 35-16.

Eastern Michigan started off the second half on its own 20-yard line. It quickly picked up two first downs before Ben Ingle recovered a fumble and brought it back for a touchdown, giving Ball State a 35-3 lead.

The Eagles took the ball on their own 22-yard line after the kickoff. Russell made a leaping one-handed catch for a first down to the Eastern Michigan 45. Bell Jr. picked up two first downs using his legs and found Jackson to move the ball to the Ball State 10. He hit Russell for a 10-yard touchdown, and Ball State led 35-10 after the extra point.

After a touchback, Ball State took over on its own 25-yard line. Ozzie Mann entered the game for Ball State. The Cardinals went three and out, and the Eagles took over on their own 48-yard line.

Eastern Michigan quickly moved the ball to the Ball State 26, and facing third and one, Hill went right and picked up a first down to the Ball State 13. Eastern Michigan settled for a field goal, cutting Ball State’s lead to 35-13.

The Cardinals took over on their own 25. After a fast three and out, Ball State punted and Eastern Michigan took over on its own 42-yard line. Jackson picked up two consecutive first downs to the Ball State 35, and facing third and 19, Bell Jr. hit Creel for a first down. Another field goal cut Ball State’s lead to 35-16.

Ball State started its next possession on its own 25. Two carries picked up a first down, and the quarter ended.

Second Quarter

At halftime, Ball State leads Eastern Michigan 28-3.

Bronson Hill brought the ball past midfield, but the drive stalled and Ball State took over on its own 13 after a punt. The drive sputtered and Ball State punted, Eastern Michigan taking over on its own 14-yard line. 

Bell Jr. hit Kris Strange for 11 yards, then found Russell for another first down. Creel reeled in an 11-yard reception, but the drive fell apart, and after a punt, Ball State took over on its own one-yard line.

Milas found Williams for a first down, and hit him again for a 44-yard gain. Banks took three consecutive carries for nine yards, and Edwards spun away from a defender and raced 29 yards for a touchdown. After the extra point, Ball State led 21-3.

Eastern Michigan started its next drive off on its own 17. After picking up one first down, the Eagles punted and the Cardinals took over on their own 25. Ball State quickly punted, and Eastern Michigan took over on its own 37. Bell Jr. found Creel for seven yards, and Bell Jr. then fumbled on the next play. Aaron Taylor recovered for Ball State. 

After an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Ball State had the ball on the Eastern Michigan 33. Jordan Hogue caught a pass from Milas and took it the distance for a touchdown, giving Ball State a 28-3 lead after the extra point. The half ended shortly after. 

First Quarter

At the end of the first quarter, Ball State leads Eastern Michigan 14-3.

Ball State started the game off on its own 25-yard line. Jahwan Edwards was tackled for a loss of two on the first play, and after a short gain on the next play, Jack Milas found Chris Shillings for a first down. Another quick pass to Jordan Williams picked up another first down, and Darian Green picked up 28 yards on a toss to the left. Green ran for another first down deep in Eastern Michigan territory. Milas carried the ball in for a touchdown. After the extra point, Ball State led 7-0.

The Eagles started their first drive off on their own 25-yard line. Reginald Bell Jr. completed a short pass to Dustin Creel on first down, but the drive quickly fell apart, and after the punt, Ball State took over on its own 34.

Edwards broke off a 16-yard run, but after a couple short gains on the ground and an incomplete pass, Ball State punted and Eastern Michigan took over on its own 13-yard line.

Ryan Brumfield was stuffed for a gain of just two on the first play and Darius Jackson picked up a first down on the next play. Bell Jr. took the ball himself across midfield on a 22-yard carry. Tyreese Russell caught a pass for a first down, and Bell Jr. found Creel down the left seam to move into the red zone. The drive stalled, and Eastern Michigan kicked a field goal, cutting Ball State’s lead to 7-3.

After the touchback, Ball State took over on its own 25-yard line. Milas kept the ball for a 54-yard gain to the Eastern Michigan 25. Edwards and Horactio Banks each carried the ball on the next three plays for another first down, but a 15-yard offensive pass interference penalty on Williams backed Ball State up to a first and 25. Facing third and nine, Milas hit Corey Lacanaria for the touchdown, and Ball State led 14-3 after the extra point.

Eastern Michigan started its drive off on its own 13. After a couple run plays, the quarter ended.
