Despite 20 points from sophomore Jill Morrison, the Ball State women's basketball team fell 69-56 Sunday at No. 12 Louisville.

“We knew [Louisville was] going to be tough," Ball State head coach Brady Sallee said. "But we went in with a plan to do what we could to beat them.”

Ball State remained within striking distance for the majority of the game, tying the score twice during the first half.

Morrison's 20 points led the Cardinals, with junior Nathalie Fontaine contributing 11 and sophomore Renee Bennett adding eight.

“[Morrison] has been a terrific player this season and has really been able to make shots when we need them,” Sallee said.

Ball State competed on the backboards, pulling down 30 rebounds to Louisville's 36.

“We work on rebounding a lot during practice, and to see us nearly match one of the top schools in the country in rebounds shows just what we can do,” Sallee said.

A late 10-point run by Louisville would prove to be too much for Ball State to overcome, and the Cardinals fell to 1-2 on the season.

The Cardinals return to action on Nov. 29, hosting the Ball State Federal Union Thanksgiving Classic. Ball State begins the two-day tournament against Murray State at 2:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
