WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals finish VCU Invitational with 2-1 record

The Ball State women's volleyball team fell in five sets to VCU, finishing the VCU Invitational 2-1.  

The match came down to the wire, as VCU took the fifth and final set 15-13.

Offensively, Ball State had 52 kills in the match, with an attack percentage of .168.

Outside hitter Mackenzie Kitchel led Ball State with 12 kills. Jill Hopper added 10 kills, while middle blocker Hayley Benson had 11. Two other Cardinals tallied nine kills.

The Cardinals benefited from eight service aces. Sophomore Nikki Box led the team with four, while Benson and redshirt junior libero Alex Fuelling had two each.

Junior Jenna Spadafora led the Cardinals in assists with 46.

Defensively, Ball State totaled five blocks, with Benson leading the team with one solo block and three block assists.

Fuelling had 22 digs in the match. Spadafora recorded 12 digs, followed by Box who added 11. 

The Cardinals return to the court on Sept. 26 as they open Mid-American Conference play against the Western Michigan Broncos. The match will be at 7 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
