The Ball State soccer team opened its regular season today with a 3-0 home victory over IPFW.

Sophomore Gabby Veldman gave the Cardinals an early lead when she scored a goal on a cross from junior Elaina Musleh less than five minutes into the match.

Junior Madison Oyer scored an unassisted goal in the 20th minute, and two minutes later freshman Franziska Sottner scored her first goal as a Cardinal off a cross from fellow freshman Lucy Walton.

The Cardinals dominated the game defensively, allowing only six shots on goal the entire match.

In contrast, Ball State applied constant pressure on IPFW's goalkeeper, taking 21 shots on goal in the 3-0 win.

With the victory, Ball State moves to 1-0 on the young season, and will travel to Green Bay, Wis., on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match against the Green Bay Phoenix.

Last season, the Cardinals blanked the Phoenix 3-0.
