Ball State squandered an early lead and eventually fell 4-6 to Toledo at the Ball State Softball Complex this afternoon. The loss drops the Cardinals’ record to 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

The Cardinals struggled to keep the momentum after the second inning.

Ball State was held to five hits offensively. Leadoff hitter Loren Cihlar had two hits to lead the team. Senior Jennifer Gilbert had two RBIs while reaching base three times.

All four runs were scored in the first two innings. The team didn’t record a hit from that point until the seventh inning.

Defensively, the Cardinals committed four errors.

Kelsey Schifferdecker started the game on the mound and pitched six innings. She allowed nine hits and six runs, only one of which was earned. She also struck out three and walked one. Nicole Steinbach also pitched one inning in relief.
