The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s recreation of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s single “Can’t Hold Us” wasn’t easy.

Joel Godett, assistant director of broadcast and multimedia services, filmed the parody and came up with the idea after seeing a similar video done at Syracuse when he was in college.

The music video follows Charlie Cardinal and various athletes in on-campus areas, such as Worthen Arena, near Beneficence and Frog Baby, Briner Sports Complex and in front of the Bell Tower.

The video was shot over the course of two weeks and consisted of at least eight different shoots, Godett said. The longest shoot came after the Ball State baseball’s home stand against Eastern Michigan, in which they shot for four hours.

Getting all the athletes together at one time was the most difficult part.

“I was sifting through schedules, trying to figure out when I can get five people together,” Godett said. “And it was virtually impossible.”

Baseball player Jarrett James and Godett wrote the lyrics in roughly two hours. Football player Nick Miles performed the rap.

As of April 24, the video has more than 5,000 views since its Monday release.
