Former Ball State volleyball coach dies

McManama collected 70-95 record during his tenure

Former Indiana volleyball icon Jerre McManama, 76, died of a sudden heart attack Saturday.

The former coach led Ball State’s women’s volleyball program for six years from 1983-1988. He amassed a 70-95 record during that span.

McManama earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State and was a member of Ball State’s inaugural men’s volleyball season in 1960. He was named to Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s first team in 1961.

He was a professor at Ball State before moving to Indianapolis where he served as a Supervisor of Physical Education Majors for Ball State and Indiana. He also taught physical education at the University of Indianapolis during that time.
