WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Weekend sweep sends Ball State home under .500

First time with losing record since 2009-2010 season

A failure to close out sets cost Ball State a chance to extend both of its Saturday matches. It ended up aiding Ball State's 0-3 weekend.

Ball dropped the first match of the day to Northern Colorado in four sets (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22) and lost its second match to Tulsa in four sets (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 27-25) just two hours later.

With set point at 24-22, Ball State wasn't able to extend the match after Tulsa rebounded to win the set 27-25 and take the match. Tulsa outside hitter Tyler Henderson hit a cross-court shot on set point to help send it into overtime.

Senior outside hitter Kara Bates led Ball State offensively in both matches. She posted a career-high 24 kills in the loss to Northern Colorado and continued her success against Tulsa with 19 kills.

Junior libero Catie Fredrich nearly bested her career mark of 31 digs with 30 against Tulsa. Coach Steve Shondell said her effort was one of the biggest reasons Ball State kept it close.

Ball State (4-6) is under .500 for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.
