SOCCER: Forward substitute scores to secure tie for ball State

Pembleton puts away cross in 80th minute against Hawaii

Providing energy off the bench seems like a role sophomore forward Nicole Pembleton thrives in.

After breaking through for an assist on the game-winning goal in Ball State's match against IPFW on Sunday, Pembleton scored a goal to secure a 1-1 tie against Hawaii in the team's first game of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic on Friday.

Hawaii's sophomore midfielder Krystal Pascua scored in the 28th minute on a left-footed shot that beat the outstretched arm of senior goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler.

The lead stood until the 80th minute when a cross went loose in the box. It fell to Pembleton who buried it in the open net for her second goal of the season.

Pembleton's goal sent the game into overtime where neither team could score. After 110 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ball State improved to 3-2-1 on the season, while Hawaii is now 4-1-2. The team's next game is against Detroit on Sunday.
