FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State opens alumni weekend with loss

Missouri State takes advantage in second half to win 4-2

It was a tale of two halves for the Ball State field hockey team Saturday afternoon, ending 2-4.

In the first half against Missouri State, Ball State gave up one goal, but goalkeeper Shelby Henley recorded six saves.

The goal that the Bears scored in the first half came from freshman Olivia Nicotera at the 21:28 mark.

With 92 seconds remaining in the half, Ball State freshman Bianca Velez scored her second goal of the season off a penalty corner play. Sophomore Leanne Goldblatt recorded an assist on the play.

The Cardinals went into halftime with a 1-1 tie.

In the second half, Missouri State received a boost from its offense, and scored three goals off it.

Two of those goals were scored by Missouri State's junior forward Hillary Lawless. Lawless led both teams with six shot attempts.

The Cardinals scored a goal late off a deflection by freshman Allie White.
