BASEBALL: Alex Marconi resigns as Ball State's coach

New national search begins immediately according to press release

Ball State announced the resignation of baseball coach Alex Marconi on Wednesday according to athletic director Bill Scholl in a press release.

Marconi's last two seasons have been traumatic, with a combined record of 29-71 and a team that was far removed from Mid-American Conference contention in the two years prior to becoming the head coach.

"We are very appreciative of coach Marconi's seven years of service to Ball State as an assistant coach and a head coach," Scholl said in the press release. "We wish coach Marconi well in his future plans."

Scholl will begin conducting a national search for the next head coach immediately.

Ball State failed to make the MAC tournament in each of the last two years after going a combined 20-33 in MAC play.
