GYMNASTICS: Ball State opens season with loss at Illinois State

Allen places first in vault in loss to Redbirds

A difference of 4.55 points cost Ball State gymnastics a win on Sunday afternoon. The first meet of the season was held at Illinois State University.

Of four rotations, Ball State was only victorious on vault with a score of 47.650. Illinois State scored higher on their bars, balance beam and floor exercise rotations.

Junior Nicole Allen placed first overall on vault with a score of 9.800. Allen also competed on bars, beam and floor but did not place in the top three of those events.

On floor, sophomore Aftyn Siemer finished first with 9.725. Siemer also tied for second place on vault with 9.625.

Senior Julie Cotter placed first on bars tallying 9.675.

Tied on bars for third place was senior Kayla Kmiecik. She tied with a score of 9.575 with Illinois State's Samantha King. Kmiecik also was in rotation on floor scoring 9.475.

The teams match up again on Friday at Ball State. The meet is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Irving Gym.
