Cardinals hand Bobcats their first loss in the MAC

The Ball State women's volleyball team asserted its place as the best team in the Mid-American Conference by defeating Ohio 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15) on the road Friday night.

Ball State's record improves to 17-3 with the victory and 6-1 in the MAC.

Ohio, the leader of the MAC East Division, lost its first conference match of the season to drop its record to 14-7 and 6-1 in the MAC.

Ball State's defense was instrumental in securing the match, limiting the Ohio offense to a .168 attack percentage and ending the match with five different players finishing with double-digit digs. Sophomore libero Catie Fredrich led the team with 17 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Whitney Heeres was Ball State's leader on offense, scoring a match-best 16 kills.

Ball State will take to floor again Saturday night with a road match against Kent State at 7 p.m.
