MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State ends second day of competition with five wins

Albertin and Carpenter lead the way for the Cardinals

After going 3-6 in singles play Thursday in the opening round of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, the Ball State men's tennis team rebounded Friday with a respectable 5-4 mark.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior Dalton Albertin and senior Derek Carpenter. Each competitor won its match 6-4, 6-2 over Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky, respectively. Junior Zane Smith also won his match in straight sets over Vanderbilt.

As for doubles competition, it will continue Saturday morning. The twosome of Carpenter/Smith will look to win their Round of 16 match up against No. 5 seed Louisville while Albertin and freshman Ray Leonard look to win their match up with No. 3 seed Indiana.

The Cardinals resume play in the Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
