MEN'S GOLF: Ball State finishes sixth to prep for MAC Tournament

Steger finishes 20th in final tournament before conference tournament

The Ball State men's golf team finished sixth at the Robert Kepler Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, after starting out with a fifth place position after the first two rounds.

The team scored an overall 891 to finish behind four nationally ranked teams. Illinois, the 11th best team in the nation, won the event with a total score of 857.

Kent State, Ohio State, Iowa and Minnesota finished, respectively, in front of Ball State.

Senior Eric Steger started the final round tied for 40th place and improved to tie for 20th with an overall score of a 221 that lead the entire Cardinals team.

Freshman Tyler Merkel tied for 23rd with an overall score of 222. Joe Gasser tied for 33rd with a score of 225. Alex Stinson tied for 39th with a 229. TJ Carpenter rounded out the Cards tied for 60th with a 241.

This was the last tournament before the Cardinals play in the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament. The MAC Championship will take place in Maineville, Ohio Friday through Sunday.
