SOFTBALL: Cards split Saturday games

Pitchers Workman and Sanders excel in season debuts

The Ball State softball team split its opening two games Saturday in the Austin Peay Tournament in Clarksville, TN.

Ball State defeated Belmont 8-0 in their morning game before falling to Cleveland State 1-0 in the afternoon.

Junior pitcher Audrey Workman gave up three hits in five shutout innings against Belmont. Sophomore pitcher Audra Sanders pitched seven innings against Cleveland State, giving up one-run and 12 strikeouts in the loss.

Leading the way for Ball State's offense was freshman third baseman Audrey Bickel with two hits and three RBIs and senior outfielder Alyssa Collins with three hits and two RBIs.

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow against UMKC and then play host Austin Peay in the afternoon. First pitch is at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
